Ali Greene is an artist and the founder of Wave Art in Crows Nest, Sydney. With a professional background in early childhood education, she returned to painting nearly 40 years after her high school HSC works — where she first explored her love of the ocean through sailing boats and seascapes. Today, waves remain her signature theme, a metaphor for resilience and transformation.
Ali’s personal journey has been deeply shaped by Art Therapy. Following personal trauma, art became both a sanctuary and a tool for healing. This experience reawakened her creative voice and inspired her to pursue formal study in Art Therapy, so she can share its benefits with others. Her work celebrates process over perfection, helping people find self-expression, mindfulness, and confidence in painting, drawing, and mixed media.
Her triptych and personal story were recently published in Children’s Mental Health Gallery — 100 Artworks about Mental Health, by Children, Young People, & Loved Ones (Melbourne Children’s Hospital, 2025).
Teaching has always been at the heart of Ali’s life. With decades of experience in education, she creates learning spaces where children and adults alike feel safe to explore and grow. At Wave Art, Ali empowers students to express themselves freely, combining structure with play, so that everyone — from five-year-olds to adults in mindful meditation classes — can experience the joy of making art.
Her philosophy is simple: art is therapy. In her classes, she focuses on small teachable moments — from mastering brush control to experimenting with colour tones and perspective — always encouraging confidence, independence, and creative risk-taking.
No introduction to Ali would be complete without Pixie, her gentle Japanese Spitz. Pixie has been with Ali since she was a puppy, and at two years old she began training as an Assistance Dog. Now, she is not just Ali’s constant shadow and support but also part of the Wave Art community.
Princess Pixie (she has been affectionately named) can often be found supervising from her special bed or napping while classes unfold. She is calm, affectionate, and adored by many — but her comfort always comes first. Under Ali’s guidance, students are encouraged to respect Pixie’s space, recognising that the studio is her second home. Just like Ali, Pixie helps create an environment of warmth, safety, and gentle encouragement.

One of my favourite things to paint are landscapes without a reference from my imagination! Something you may not know about me is that I play bass guitar! I love seeing the progress and improvement of our students and I’m so proud of everyone! I hope we all keep striving to paint what we love and enjoy our creative process!
Hi! My name’s Sarah. I’ve loved art for as long as I remember, and after studying and practicing it for years, I’d have to say my favourite medium to work with is mixed media. I love making a piece come to life by adding dimension and texture! My favourite part about working at Wave Art is empowering the kids to create their own works. It’s exciting to see them blossom as artists, especially during those moments where things that once seemed hard to them become what they’re most confident about.

I believe that art is about expression, growth, and discovering new perspectives to see and share the world.
HI I'm Casey, I am a self taught artist and student at the university of Sydney, studying neuroscience. I have been interested in art since I was very young. I am excited to share my passion with adults and children at Wave Art. In my spare time I enjoy iceskating, gardening, playing with my cats, and, of course - painting!
Our studio wouldn’t be complete without the team in the background.
We have a few regular casual assistants, Karol and Ilana, who help with school pick-ups, afterschool. pARTies, and holidays. We’re also supported by the wonderful team behind the scenes — Kylee and Yas, Ali’s NDIS support workers — who keep everything running smoothly.

Please be assured that all our workers hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC), so you can feel confident your children are always in safe hands. 💙
